The Briefest of Bubbles

I admire the human quest for knowledge.

It motivates us to dream of the stars.

And we want to know it all,

but the universe is timeless to our eyes

and too vast for our present wings.

We want to live forever,

but amongst the universe we exist

in the briefest of bubbles of time and opportunity,

and so much less so seems our story

within the Earths’ timeline

of molten beginnings,

ages of ice,

and a dry, lonely ending.

Does this make human creativity a pointless activity?

Or is the shout of emotion, commentary and dreams

all that more vibrant because of its brevity?

We breathe the air now.

We mold our perception

with the fierce determination

that tomorrow will be better than today.

Our voices exist now.

Our faith falls

on the slightest of imagined graces,

yet it is all we have.

She has the biggest personality I know.
North to South,
I marveled once at the distance and grandeur,
traveling as a teenager to South Padre Island,
each tree along the highway standing in peaceful repose,
burdened with the history of the watch
and the promise of the invite.
The clouds in the sky scattered
over the broad land in their guardianship,
and you grew and flourished along the family line,
the model of a Texas girl,
and the horizon is filled with all a man can cherish
in the sacred corners of his instinct and longing.
It is fulfillment enough
knowing such charms are looming beyond,
radiating out from a soul
willing to strongly embrace the world.
Such moments I hold as photos in my mind,
be they my youth or your own,
and time collapses,
what I see is the eternal moment,
laughing with joy,
safely enveloped in fearless immortality,
the pinnacle framed with your smile.
We all have our dreams,
at times lived through the fates of others,
softly beholden, off to the side.
Wings were stretched
in protection around a dark-haired girl,
and the family line again shines,
each facet an amazing story,
sparkling over and over again.
Cold eyes only open
to the warm thrill of found gems,
souls like your own
and that of your daughter
let me see the world.
So full of life,
the lesson I learn most
from your big heart is passion.
To always believe.
And to gather
all you cherish under Heaven
beneath an ever-protective will.

searching for the rumored cabin.
The air was fresh with the bloom of summer,
and I glanced at you more than one ever should.
Lost in fascination,
lost in the green and gold speckled ground,
lost in thoughts of wonder,
we lost the day traversing land and conversation.
And the sun ignored us completely,
seemingly racing away.
And the stream where we lunched
whispered constantly,
thrilled equally by sin and light.

the thought of throwing my guitar

in to my truck and driving out East

is a good daydream to have.

I think it is reasonable

provided I make the changes

that so necessarily need to made.

I will. You see,

the compulsion to grab for more

amidst the grand denial, lights sparkle

across my compass and I’m directionless.

I think it is still feasible

given the wind, the erosion,

and the fever against.

I have. I know,

the excuses I wove for escape

blinded me completely to the

city I walk amongst, nameless.

I think it is personal,

how history steals memories

from the collective air.

Tacos

I know this girl,
she works at the local taco place
and she gives me pause constantly.
She’s into duplicate numbers,
like the time my change was 55 cents,
or when I told her my birthday was on the 11th,
she called that “awesome” and even “dreamy”,
which I thought was hilariously attractive.
She’s slightly chubby and has dark hair
and she wears black-framed eyeglasses.
To be honest, she reminds me of no one more
than Velma from Scooby-Doo,
which I find intriguing to no end.
It’s Tuesday again so she’s on my mind,
but I’m no Svengali,
I think a change of diet might be in order.
I am starting to realize how dangerous
my love for tacos can be.
