MOONWOOD – “Aubade” cd/dvd
I know this guy in Canada. His name is Jakob. I sincerely think he’s one of the greatest artists of my generation. No hyperbole there, folks. He can do anything, and he can do it well. When I first “discovered” Jakob, it was via his pop music on ReverbNation as one of his musical alter-egos, THE URBANE DECAY. www.reverbnation.com/theurbanedecay Wow, I couldn’t get enough! But as I dug deeper, I found space jazz, I found cool acoustic folk, I found podcasts…So, I befriend this Jakob character. I buy some of his CDs. Then we start exchanging CDs. We actually do a cd together, a joint Heavy Moon/Rubacuori gig that I love and still discover new sounds in to this day. So, Jakob, being a decent kind of guy, he sends me his latest work, the instrumental MOODWOOD “Aubade” CD/DVD, and I’m here today to tell you it freekin’ blows me away. Whenever I want to mellow out, I put this CD on. The DVD itself is a shockingly beautiful portrayal of a day in early springtime Canada, the movement of anonymous people and forces throughout the big city of Toronto, the bubble of creativity surrounding one aware soul, in touch with something only he can transcribe through the liquid commentary of music and image, and we are all the more lucky for it. Jakob has an eye…and an ear…for capturing the modern isolation yet yearning beauty of the human spirit. I, for one, am touched and moved.
Treat yourself, people. And support a guy who’s doing it for the pure love of creativity and commentary.
